First and ahead of schedule
In February 2013 Havyard Design & Solutions entered into a contract with Fujien Mawei Shipbuilding for the delivery of a design package for building a Havyard 832 PSV to Sinopec. Last week, a month ahead of the contracted delivery date the shipyard delivered the ship to the owner.
This ship is the first Havyard 832 PSV delivered from a Chinese shipyard and also the first Havyard designTM classed by China Classification Society (CCS). Havyard has cooperated closely with the ship owner, the shipyard and the classification society in during the project. The designers from Havyard have visited the building yard and CCS drawing approval center in a planned interval to ensure that the design work is supporting a streamlined ship constructing process.
Heading straight for work
The delivery and ceremony of the vessel was held at the shipyard March 25 and the name of the vessel is “Kan Tan 312”.
Mr. Ge Weimin, the vice chief engineer of Sinopec Shanghai was happy during the delivery ceremony. “It is a very beautiful and good quality design vessel. We are glad to have her in our fleet. She has already got a charter working in South China Sea and will do supply work from ShenZhen port for the oil fields of CNOOC.” Mr. Ge commented.
Sinopec have already received a AHTS of Havyard 843 design, MV KANTAN 225 in 2012, and still have another newbuilding of Havyard 832LSE design to be delivered in 2016.
Sinopec, is the second largest oil company in China and the largest producer and supplier of refined oil products. The ship owning branch of the company is supporting its E&P activities in Chinese waters. Sinopec also charter OSV services from other ship owners for supporting its activity.
More to come from China
In addition to Hull No. MW627-1, Fujien Mawei Shipbuilding is going to deliver a Havyard 832 L SE to Sinopec in 2016. In addition, the shipyard Havyard Design & Solutions has contract with Huangpu Wencong Shipyard for delivery of design and equipment packages for building of another six Havyard 832 Platform Supply vessels. Four of these are for China Offshore Services Limited (COSL).
The Havyard 832 success
The first design of the platform supply vessel (PSV) Havyard 832 was developed in 2007 and nearly 30 vessels of this type have either been delivered or are currently being constructed. Havyard 832 PSV was developed to serve a specific need in terms of size and capacity, safety, fuel economy and being environmentally friendly. Havyard 832 has achieved great success, formed a new segment within PSV, and competing designers have developed designs stemming the same needs.
Since 2008 the Havyard 832 design has been continuously improved based on feedback from customers, research and development, and availability of new technology. This design has also been used as a foundation for the development of new types of vessels, such as the wind mill service ship Havyard 832 SOV, that ESVAGT recently has taken delivery in two vessels of.
