Atlantic Towing Limited is Canada’s biggest offshore service shipping company and operates vessels around the world from its head office in Saint John.

Havyard 833 WE is an energy-efficient PSV with large cargo capacities, a 1,000 square metres deck area and accommodation for 54 people. Among other things, the vessel will be given ice class ICE-1B classification for operation in cold waters, and its 650 kWh battery pack will ensure low diesel consumption.

Complete delivery

The vessel was originally ordered by an international customer, but as a result of a market slump in the offshore sector, the shipbuilding contract was cancelled in January 2017. After being laid up for a period, the hull can finally be completed, still as a PSV, but with a few minor modifications.

CEO of Havyard Group Geir Johan Bakke is pleased that they have found a buyer for the ship.

‘We chose to lay up the hull when the original contract was cancelled, and although we avoided the full cost of completing the vessel, it has nonetheless entailed bound-up capital. It is fantastic that we have now found a new buyer and it will have a positive liquidity effect for the group.’

This is a complete Havyard group delivery. Havyard Design & Solutions is responsible for creating an optimal energy-effective design, Havyard Ship Technology will fit the ship, and Norwegian Electric Systems will deliver the diesel electric propulsion system, the energy storage system and bridge. Havyard will also deliver its own system for ballast cleaning.

‘We are very pleased about securing a contract with Atlantic Towing for our build no 126 and look forward to starting the collaboration with a robust international shipping company such as this. Our main focus now is to deliver a high-quality vessel at the right time and on budget, and we hope this will be the start of a long and good cooperation that will benefit both parties,’ says Lars Conradi Andersen, Vice President Sales of Havyard Ship Technology.

Havyard Ship Technology is set to start work on fitting the vessel immediately, with scheduled delivery in April 2020.
